About the contest

Background

Wiki Loves Monuments in September is an international photo contest that celebrates cultural heritage in each of the participating countries. In the Finnish competition, protected buildings, significant built environments, World Heritage sites as well as archaeological sites are photographed. Images submitted to the competition will be freely available for reuse in Wikimedia Commons.

The theme this year is Sacred Place. Participants are free to interpret the topic, but we have included thousands of archaeological sites to the list of sites and updated information of many religious buildings. The Finnish competition has a special theme Lost Places and Buildings, in which old photographs can be rephotographed.

The contest is arranged in Finland by Wikimedia Finland, the Finnish Heritage Agency and the Finnish Museum of Photography.
